Since 1999, the UCSF Bixby Center for Global Reproductive Health’s interdisciplinary team of physicians and social scientists has advanced reproductive health policy and practice worldwide through research, training and advocacy. Our programs work to ensure that all people have access to safe and effective contraception, high-quality abortion care, safe childbirth, and are able to prevent and treat sexually transmitted infections. Our ultimate vision is a world in which all people have dignity, choice and health in their sexual and reproductive lives.
Our involvement: The Marty Tomberg Charitable Fund has financially supported this organization.
Projects We Support
Mobilizing Institutions Concerned with Food Security and Climate Change to Support International Family Planning
This project will address and publicize the neglected links between food security, climate, family planning and population growth for the purpose of mobilizing increased support for international family planning.
Support Dates: March, 2015 – March, 2017
Almost all of the Bixby Center’s funding is limited to research grants, which fund only the discovery of findings—not their dissemination. Yet, our ability to effectively disseminate that research is critical to our goal of improving reproductive health policies and practices. Support from the Tomberg Family Philanthropies will help ensure our members’ research has the greatest possible impact. These funds will improve our capacity to communicate effectively with decision makers, and those who influence them, such as the media, public and advocates. Additionally, we will also use these funds to raise more sources of flexible funding and strengthen our Center’s brand, visibility and organizational efficiency.
Support Dates: April, 2017 – March, 2018
