Funding Area: Health
Notify Health protects children in Nigeria from preventable illness and death by helping parents complete their child’s vaccination journey. Working in partnership with government health authorities and community organisations, Notify Health delivers low-cost SMS and voice reminders that guide parents through the ten-appointment routine immunisation schedule — in local languages, on basic mobile phones. To date, Notify Health has reached over 20,000 children across two Nigerian states, where timely vaccination rates among reminded families increased significantly.

Notify Health Child Health Reminders Taraba
Nigeria has the world’s largest population of children who have never received a single vaccine. The barrier is not always a lack of supply — vaccines, clinics, and health workers exist — but a lack of follow-through. Parents must navigate a complex schedule without personalised guidance, and many are unable to read the paper reminder cards they are given. Health workers, severely overstretched, rarely have time to call families who miss appointments. Notify Health addresses this gap by turning parents’ basic mobile phones into trusted health guides. Health workers are supported in capturing parent contact details and improving record-keeping. Those records are then digitised and used to send timely reminders before each appointment. Reminders are personalised with the child’s name, vaccination date, and local clinic details. Because literacy is a barrier, reminders are delivered as pre-recorded voice calls in local languages. With support from the Tomberg Family Philanthropies, Notify Health is piloting this approach in Taraba State, its third Nigerian state, working with a locally rooted community organisation and building lasting capacity within the state health system. When fully scaled, the program is projected to protect over 130,000 newborns per year in Taraba alone.
