Projects We Support
Microforestry Initial Expansion Planting Project
The microforestry initial expansion planting project will enable KOMAZA to establish microforests with a total of 300 new farm families. Microforestry empowers Africa’s poorest farm families to sustainably raise commercial trees at a significant profit. It is an innovative combination of microfinance, microequity and sustainable forestry which we have developed and continue to pioneer. This highly-effective, market-based strategy creates financial incentives for conservation, lifts our partner families out of poverty and offers our initiative long-term financial sustainability. Additionally, we will use the opportunity of this large-scale planting to finalize and formalize our planting manual—a comprehensive set of protocols, instructions, forms and other operational tools which will serve as a guide for future plantings and enable KOMAZA to replicate this promising intervention.
