Partners In Health

The PIH Vision: Whatever it takes At its root, our mission is both medical and moral. It is based on solidarity, rather than charity alone. When a person in Peru, or Siberia, or rural Haiti falls ill, PIH uses all of the means at our disposal to make them well—from pressuring drug manufacturers, to lobbying policy makers, to providing medical care and social services. Whatever it takes. Just as we would do if a member of our own family—or we ourselves—were ill.

Project Dignity

Project Dignity is a non profit organization that began serving Orange County’s homeless population in 1991 when founders Linda and Dave Dunlap produced a series of self-help videos for local homeless shelters. These videos contained valuable information about food, shelter, education and survival and were provided free-of-charge to organizations working with the homeless. Within a year, Project Dignity added food and clothing distribution services to accompany the videos.

In 1996, due to the greatest need Dave & Linda saw in their own community, Project Dignity redefined its mission to address the needs of the families and especially children living in residential motels. It has been our experience that people living in motels are the most misunderstood and underserved of all homeless. In 1998 we added children’s educational programs, medical assistance, increased emergency services and financial assistance to supplement its food and clothing distribution.

Environment

Friends Of Funedesin

At the Foundation for Integrated Education and Development (FUNEDESIN), we are dedicated to finding sustainable solutions in the struggle between the ideals of rain forest preservation and the realities of life in the Ecuadorian Amazon.

We work with local communities to develop community-based medical care and ecotourism programs, establish sustainable agricultural practices, improve education, provide environmentally sustainable economic alternatives, and conserve the rain forest.

FUNEDESIN employs an innovative development model based on a non-profit/for-profit organizational structure. The non-profit Foundation has created two for-profit companies, Yachana Lodge and Yachana Gourmet, to finance its fight against poverty and disease and the destruction of Ecuador's imperiled rain forest.

One hundred percent of the profits from both companies support FUNEDESIN's rain forest conservation, poverty reduction, healthcare, and community development projects, guaranteeing their long-term financial sustainability.

Sacramento Valley Open Space Conservancy

The Conservancy was founded in 1990 on two basic principles - that open lands are necessary for quality of life and that we must care for the land today so future generations may enjoy its physical and spiritual benefits tomorrow.

SVC's mission is to preserve the beauty, character and diversity of the Sacramento Valley landscape by working with citizens, property owners, developers, public agencies and other nonprofit organizations. It creates dedicated open space by the acceptance of gifts, private purchase, facilitation of public acquisition, conservation easements and by cooperative efforts. It arranges for the preservation of these lands for agricultural, natural resource protection, recreation, and wildlife habitat purposes.

SVC is a private, non-profit land trust and buys land only from willing sellers. We work cooperatively with private landowners and public and private funding sources to create win-win solutions.
