What is Philanthropy?

especially : active effort to promote human welfare

Philanthropy goes beyond charity by attempting to address the underlying causes of social problems rather than only providing immediate assistance to those in need.
What is Charity?
1 : generosity and helpfulness especially toward the needy or suffering; also : aid given to those in need b : an institution engaged in relief of the poor c : public provision for the relief of the needy
How To Apply For Our Grants
To avoid adding to the administrative costs of the organizations we support, The Tomberg Family Philanthropies does not have a specific application form.
Please submit the following items in order to request a grant.
1) A cover letter very briefly describing your project and the amount of funding that you are requesting.
2) A copy of a grant application that you have submitted to any other organization requesting funding for the same project. It is acceptable to remove any sensitive information relating to the grantmaking organization for which the application was originally prepared. Alternately, you may prepare an application specifically for us. No preference will be given to such applications, however.
The application should include at least the following items:
- A full description of the project and its goals,
- An explanation of why you think this intervention will make a difference in achieving these goals, along with any supporting research references,
- A project budget.
3) Some literature about your organization. This can be in the form of a pamphlet, fundraising materials, a link to your website or in any other form.
